Fasting

How can fasting heal your body?

There are two ways of fasting. Fasting for several days and intermittent fasting. They are booth good but serve different purposes.

Fasting several days

This is the option we recommend to become keto adapted as soon as possible. Number of days will depend on your age and circumstances, however three days is what we recommend. This is especially important if you have an autoimmune disease. Fasting for three days will reset your body and bring back good bacteria in your gut. After all that is where or healing starts or the opposite or illnesses stem from. It is a cleansing process, it gets rid of stored toxins and aids autophagy. If you are due to have chemotherapy it is important that your immune system is as strong as possible. Yes most good bacteria will still be killed through the treatment. After treatment it is important to build up your good bacteria as soon as possible. This is where healthy enzymes will be important and of course in combination with the Hart Ketogenic Plan. We'll guide you through this process, what to do when.

We do not recommend continuous fasting after the initial period to become fat adapted. This is highly recommended by Dr Jason Fung but we don't agree with it. Yes you will lose weight, but it's false weight loss and you will quickly put weight back on again whilst you have starved the body of vital proteins and fats as well as micronutrients.

Intermittent fasting

We recommend intermittent fasting on a daily basis. The body needs to rest in between meals, both to digest what has just been eaten as well as repair itself. We recommend, what is referred to as 16:8, it means that you will eat two meals within 8 hours (no snacking) and then leave your body to repair itself during 16 hours. This boosts mitochondria energy efficiency. Initially you can include a keto snack, simply because you are probably used to snacking. You will find that this urge will ease since you will actually not get hungry.

We simply eat too much and too often in the Western world. That's why we are seeing the tsunami of diseases as well as obesity. Your ancestors had no choice but to fast for several days on the trot. No supermarkets and no freezers unless you lived in a cold clime.
